The COMMODORE'S COLUMN by Christine B. Snedaker

 August Column

WOW!!!! What a wonderful turnout for our June dinner meeting…60…
and it is summertime! Many thanks to P/C Joe Tringali for organizing
the Sundown Ceremony. It even attracted some North Palm Beach residents

and the Mayor, who were quite impressed with the ceremony. We are making this a tradition for our dinner meetings at the North Palm Beach Country
Club. We had several guests in attendance that expressed interest in becoming members and an inquiry from one of the residents who observed the
ceremony. The Country Club staff and kitchen are going all out to accommodate our needs. Let’s continue to show them our support.

ALL ABOARD!!!

NPBYC will be cruising to the Bahamas aboard the Celebration departing November 12th and returning the
14th or the 16th for those staying over in Lucaya. The last count that heard was over 20 who have made reservations with Rita Bailey. You can reserve with a $50 deposit per person with the balance due by September 3rd. Let’s all get aboard and have some fun at a very reasonable price. Call Rita now for details and to reserve your cabin.

IT’S A DATE DECEMBER 9TH

MALTZ JUPITER THEATRE featuring the “Academy”. Reservations are limited to 30, so please make your

checks payable to NPBYC now, and mail to: Christine Snedaker, 35 Stoney Drive, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. There will be a champagne reception before the performance and meet the cast after.

Our Summer Uniform for our Board and Past Commodores is summer whites: No Jackets & ties.
We welcome our members to dress in summer whites as well.

The Board had a break in July from meeting, but we will regroup again the 2nd Tuesday in August at 6:30 pm at the North Palm Beach Yacht Club. Members are always welcome at Board meetings.
This is your club and we want to hear from you.

Rear Commodore's Report by Greg Fighmaster

August is a month where parents are driving their
kids to the beach, baseball games, soccer practice,
etc. then to the malls to cool off and shop for back-to-
school clothes. Well, we.ve passed that stage of life
and we need only worry about our social calendar.
No need to worry. It looks very good:

August 6,  --- 1st FRIDAY.

The incredible Gayle Flaherty is offering her home in celebration of ‘ADMIT YOUR HAPPY MONTH’.

The first 40 people that call for reservations will be part of this Gayla. event. Gayle has engaged chef Tom for the evening dinner duties at a cost of $15 per individual. Dinner and drinks will start at 6 PM. Be sure to bring your choice of beverage. For reservations please call Rita Bailey. See the Ship's Wheel for directions.

August 12, 2010 – 2nd THURSDAY.

A big GET WELL to all those that are recovering from their individual operations. What a better way to update everyone than a get together at the NPBCC. On August 12, at the NPBCC, we will have our own happy hour again. From 5pm to 7pm there will be 2 for 1 drinks at the new reduced happy hour price with happy hour appetizers. The bar will be open to others, so don.t forget your name tags. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

August 23, 2010 – NATIONAL PEACH MONTH

It seems that there are few national holidays in August, so choosing a dinner theme was a challenge. President Reagan was able to help in that regard “Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America,
do hereby proclaim August "National Peach Month''  and call upon the people of the United States to incorporate this nutritious fruit into their diets, and call upon interested groups to celebrate this month with appropriate programs and activities. Do we know how to plan activities or what? In any case chef Chris has a great menu planned for us starting with our attitude Adjustment period (i.e. Cocktail Hour 6:00 p.m.) at the
bar, also a second bar will be set up in the dinning hall for drink orders, (2 for 1).

Sundown Ceremony at 6:30 PM

Dinner Event will cost $25.00 per person and commence @ 7:00 p.m.

MENU

Mojito salad Jicama, cucumber, red onion, water melon, strawberries,
arugula, lime rum vinaigrette

Entrée
Pan Roasted Pork apple mango chutney, rosemary demi glaze

Chilean Sea grilled fennel, garlic tomato ragout, basil oil

Chicken Scaloppini Marsala wine, shitake mushrooms, garlic, shallots.

*All entrees served with risotto cake and vegetable

Fleet Captain's Report by Alan Adams

Raft up July 17th at Old Port Cove. Raft up July 17th at Old Port Cove. A raft-up was held on the afternoon of 17 July off of Old Port Cove. It was the largest raft-up of the year with six boats; one was new and one had not been seen for a while. P/C Tom
Collins and Vice Commodore Patty Collins took over the anchor boat duties in their NEW BOAT, soon to be named Manana.

P/C Lew Graf and Jan returned to our area and joined us at the event on their vessel Amazon. P/C Dick Daytz and Lynn celebrated relinquishing the anchor boat duties with Tranquilizer by attending with many flags flying. Also tied up were Fleet Captain Alan Adams with Lagniappe, Dan Allari and Julie Fenix on Cat Furrat and John Hasselman on Spot. It was a sunny, warm day but a brisk southeast breeze kept it quite pleasant. Many, not content with air-cooling alone, headed for the dive platform and took a swim.

Plans For August Plans For August

We plan to Raft up on the Brazilian Docks located on Palm Beach across from West Palm on August 21. We can then walk down Worth Ave, window shop and then gather at the Ta-Boo for lunch at noon. The dock master has agreed to provide us slips for four hours at no cost. Sounds like a great day commencing around 10:00 am and lasting until 2:00 pm.

Boaters contact Tom Collins or me. Land people meet us at the docks, in the Gucci shop or in the restaurant. We will need an accurate count for slips and attendance at TaBoo.

Vice Commodore's Report by Patti Collins

Please join me in welcoming two
new members of our club...

 Rich D'Anieri and Cindy Kott.

They are avid boaters and have a 25' Sea Ray Laguna. Rich owns a business repairing medical electronics. He is a past President and Treasurer of the Palm Beach Fin Divers Club.
Rich enjoys both diving and fishing. Cindy is an English teacher and is currently studying for her BA in English Literature. They live on the Intracoastal in Jupiter and are currently having their house remodeled while they are squeezing into a condo in Tequesta.

They recently became local heroes, as they
were instrumental in saving the life of the woman
who crashed into the dock (next door to them) and
was pinned under the boat that came down off the
lift. Great job helping a fellow boater in distress!
